A Muhammadan Community

September 6, 2019 @ 7:00 pm September 8, 2019 @ 7:00 pm

WHAT IS THE RETREAT ABOUT?

Ta’leef Chicago welcomes you to “A Muhammadan Community”, an intensive weekend retreat centered around the prophetic practices & teachings of mercy, authenticity, sacred activism, sacrifice, and belonging with beloved teachers: Hisham Mahmoud, Ieasha Prime, Micah Anderson, Tayssir Safi and more God-willing!

We’ll kick off the weekend on Friday evening with an introduction to the retreat, setting community intentions and agreements and getting to know each other!

During the remainder of the weekend, we’ll explore what living in the best of communities was like in the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and how we can resurrect the values of love and service in our everyday lives. We will examine challenges faced by the community of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and how we can apply some of that knowledge to addressing important issues that we face daily at home, in the work place, and beyond.

The retreat will include lectures, workshops, experiential and group activities, mindfulness and meditation. Our aim is to create a space where we not only listen and learn, but also engage and experience.

WHAT WILL WE COVER?

MERCY

Together we’ll learn the many mercies of Allah and how to create a deeper sense of hope and gratitude.

God says, “My mercy embraces all things (Qur’an 7:156)” and the greatest mercy bestowed to humankind was the gift of the last and final Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).

AUTHENTICITY

In an age of rampant distractions, it’s easy to lose touch with who we really are and the purpose of this short journey on earth.

The Prophet (peace be upon him) said “one who knows himself, knows his Lord.” Let’s use this opportunity to reconnect with how to be authentic in all of our relationships.

SACRED ACTIVISM

Part of our spiritual obligation is to stand for justice and be a source of good for humanity, so how can we better understand sacred activism through our service?

We learn in the Qur’an (4:135) that Allah says: “Oh you who believe, stand firm for justice, even against your own selves.”

SACRIFICE

Sacrifice is an act of generosity and love. Let’s dive deeper into what it means to really sacrifice for the sake of Allah.

“If Allah knows of [any] good in your hearts, He will give you better than that which has been taken away from you…” (Qur’an 8:70)

BELONGING

How do we create a true sense of belonging as a community?

The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “the parable of the believers in their affection, mercy, and compassion for each other is that of a body. When any limb aches, the whole body reacts with sleeplessness and fever.” (Bukhari)
